About

Nekyria, a bear Kenom Zombie from Riyoumu, was born 291 years ago in the prosperous Saifo, a city-state that once stood as one of the wealthiest and most thriving industrial hubs on the planet Parallax. Born into a family of privilege, she lived a carefree and happy childhood, surrounded by the wealth and luxuries her home city provided. Her family enjoyed many gifts and vacations, and life was seemingly perfect for Nekyria in her early years.

Saifo, at that time, was a shining beacon of prosperity, boasting technological advancements and flourishing industries that drew people from all over Parallax. Nekyria’s life was filled with fond memories of holidays spent with her family, exploring the stunning cities and landscapes of the planet. She grew up with a love for photography, documenting the beautiful moments of her life and her home’s grandeur.

However, the world she knew came crashing down with the eruption of the Great Parallaxian War. Riyoumu became a major battleground, with the Pixelated Beings (PBs) launching devastating attacks on the region. In the midst of the war, Saifo became one of the cities targeted, its wealth and strategic importance making it a prime location for the PBs’ assault. During one fateful attack, Nekyria and her family were caught in the chaos as they desperately sought shelter. They were hit by a plasma ray, an immensely powerful and deadly weapon, which left Nekyria bloodied and on the brink of death. Her family was killed instantly, leaving her alone, gravely wounded, and clinging to life.

In the aftermath of the attack, with Saifo reduced to ruins, Nekyria found herself barely alive. In her final moments, she unknowingly absorbed a mysterious strain of fungi that had spread across the toxic wastelands, left in the wake of the destruction. This fungus, which had strange regenerative properties, seeped into her wounds and fused with her body. While it couldn’t restore her fully to life, it gave her enough strength to survive—transforming her into a Zombie.

When Nekyria awoke, she found herself changed. The once-vibrant city of Saifo had become a ghostly shell of its former self, with toxic fogs and wastelands stretching as far as the eye could see. The fungus had altered her body, preserving her as a Zombie, her form no longer bound by the limitations of mortality. She no longer needed food or sleep in the same way as before, but she retained her consciousness and memories, her emotions and sense of self. She still felt the weight of her loss, the death of her family and the destruction of her home, but she also discovered a strange resilience—an ability to navigate the toxic wastelands of Riyoumu without harm.

While others would perish in the toxic air and smog that enveloped the region, Nekyria was unaffected. Her new Zombie form allowed her to explore the dangerous, poisoned lands that had once been off-limits to living beings. She began to embrace this new chapter of her existence, taking solace in the unique wildlife and eerie beauty of the wastelands. She returned to her passion for photography, capturing the strange, mutated creatures and landscapes of the toxic environment around her. The wildlife fascinated her—creatures that had adapted to the hostile conditions, much like she had. Her photography became a way for her to express herself, to find joy and meaning in a world that had been shattered.

Despite the darkness of her circumstances, Nekyria retained a positive outlook on life. She never gave in to the despair that had taken so many others in the aftermath of the war. Instead, she found beauty in the desolate and the strange. She loved documenting the ever-evolving ecosystems of the wastelands and often ventured deep into the heart of the poisoned lands to photograph the most exotic and bizarre forms of life. Her photo albums became her treasure, filled with images that others could only dream of seeing firsthand.

Though she could no longer enjoy the same things she did in her previous life, some of her old loves remained. She developed a strange fondness for spinach, a rare plant that survived in the wasteland’s hidden pockets. Water also became something she cherished deeply—its purity reminding her of her past life. Hugs, while difficult for her in her undead state, were another source of comfort, as they represented the warmth and connection she missed from her family.

However, there were new things she couldn’t stand. Fire, which once brought warmth and life, now terrified her—it represented destruction, something she had already witnessed too much of in her lifetime. Bright lights were another irritation to her now-sensitive zombie eyes, and she avoided planes, their noisy engines and harsh, mechanical nature grating against her senses and reminding her of the industrial horrors that had led to the war.

As a Zombie, Nekyria has learned to live with her curse, embracing her undead nature but still holding onto her humanity. She wears her undead status lightly, often with a touch of humor, and while she carries the pain of her past, she does her best to focus on the small joys she finds in her current existence. She often visits ruins and abandoned structures, reflecting on the world that once was while appreciating the beauty of the one that now is.

Though she is largely alone, Nekyria finds companionship in the creatures of the wasteland, and sometimes in the people she meets who pass through Riyoumu. She’s a kind soul, despite her eerie appearance, and often helps travelers who are lost or in danger, guiding them through the toxic terrain. She avoids most large settlements, knowing that her appearance as a Zombie might cause fear or hostility, but she remains connected to the world in her own way, observing and documenting life as it continues on Parallax.

In the end, Nekyria is a survivor, a testament to resilience in the face of overwhelming destruction. She might be a Zombie, but she carries with her the heart and soul of the Kenom she once was—kind, curious, and always seeking the beauty in the world, even when it seems lost to darkness.
